Three days, four jobs: a 2011 GTI,
$3,000 flat, in the owner’s driveway.

August 2026. The owner of this GTI first messaged through the site in April about a rear main seal. He thought it over for four months, then booked the whole list at once: the seal, a DSG service, brakes at all four corners, and a water pump. One flat number, $3,000, agreed before the first bolt moved, and three booked days at his driveway to do all of it right. The biggest job on this site so far, and the one that best shows how I work.

How it went

  1. 1The April message. The owner found this site in early April and asked about the seal. He got a straight read and a real number, then took four months to decide. Nothing expired, nobody chased him. A quote from me is information you keep, not a countdown.
  2. 2The honest scope. A rear main seal on a DSG car means the gearbox has to come out of the way to reach a small part in a deep place. That sits at the very edge of what a driveway can honestly do, and I say so publicly. I quoted it because his driveway, the weather window and the schedule genuinely allowed three booked days, and because once the car is that far apart, everything else on the list gets cheap to add.
  3. 3Three days, said out loud. This was never a same-day special and I didn’t pretend otherwise. It was booked as three days and it took three days, including some genuinely ugly weather in the middle. His review mentions the weather on its own, I didn’t write that line for him.
  4. 4Everything, while the car is open. Fresh fluid and filter through the DSG. New pads and rotors at all four corners. A new water pump with fresh coolant through the system. That’s the point of bundling: one visit, one flat number, and the car comes back with its list cleared instead of one item patched and the rest “next time.”
  5. 5The handover. Road test. Old parts shown. The flat $3,000 we agreed in advance, not a dollar more. The car’s file now carries the full record, what went on, which parts, and when the next items come due, so nothing on this car gets guessed at again.
Read this before you ask me for the same job. Taking a gearbox out of the way to reach a seal sits on the edge of what a driveway can honestly do, and my turn-down list is public for a reason. I’ll quote this class of job only when the space, the weather window and the schedule genuinely allow it, and I’ll say no when they don’t. The rest of this visit, the brakes, the DSG service, the water pump, is my everyday work, and it books in a day, not three.
Check the number. $3,000 flat covered four jobs in one visit, parts and labour together, nothing added at the end. Every range I publish for the individual job families is on the pricing page and machine-readable at /data/consumer-rate-card.json, dated, so you can hold my own numbers against me.
The 140-day quote. The owner messaged in April and booked in August. Nothing expired and nobody hounded him in between, and the read he got in August matched the honesty of the one in April. If you’re sitting on a quote from me right now, it works exactly the same way.
Why there’s no name or city on this page. There never is, on any job here. The customer knows who he is; you don’t need to. What you need is checkable: the car, the work, the parts, the figure actually paid, and a permission record behind it.

What the customer said afterwards
